Maury High School is proud to host its very own Model United Nations conference, bringing the MUN experience to middle school students in Hampton Roads. MauryMUN is an independent conference designed for younger delegates, inspired by the traditions and practices of high school MUN experiences. Through this affiliation, Maury hopes to provide students with a safe, supportive environment to learn diplomacy, debate, and global problem-solving, while connecting them to the broader MUN community.

Our Goal

Maury MUN aims to introduce new students to the world of Model United Nations by creating an engaging and welcoming first experience. The conference focuses on building public speaking skills, encouraging middle schoolers to become more aware of global issues, and promoting confidence through discussion and debate. Above all, Maury MUN strives to bring excitement and fun into the middle school experience while inspiring students to think beyond their classrooms and into the wider world.

How MUN Works

At Maury MUN, students are assigned a country to represent in a committee. Each delegate researches their country’s stance on global issues and participates in structured debates to propose solutions. Students write and vote on resolutions, negotiate with other delegates, and practice diplomacy, all under the guidance of experienced chairs who help ensure the debate runs smoothly.

Skills Students can gain

Maury MUN helps students build practical skills that go beyond the classroom. Delegates strengthen public speaking, learn how to organize and present ideas, practice teamwork and negotiation, and develop critical thinking by analyzing complex international issues. These experiences give students confidence and prepare them for future leadership opportunities.
